Garter snakes

Once in a while you stumble into something that you have always wanted to see. But rarely does this happen in a rural park near your home. Nonetheless, a month or so ago I accidentally ran into a breeding group of Common Garter Snakes Thamnophis sirtalis. Having vivid memories of nature films from the large breeding pits in Manitoba it was amazing to see these beautiful snakes so close. Not sure why I didn't think of searching for garter snake breeding sites before randomly walking into one.
